Faculty of General Medicine for Overseas Students
Students enrolled in the Faculty of General Medicine at Gomel State Medical University must adhere to various regulations set forth by the university and the Republic of Belarus. These rules include abiding by national laws, respecting university staff and peers regardless of nationality or religion, and addressing conflicts through designated authorities such as supervising teachers, hostel mentors, or dean’s officers.
To ensure a smooth academic journey, students are required to keep their passports, medical insurance policies, and student cards readily available. They must renew their registration in a timely manner by submitting their passports to the dean’s office 20 days before the expiration date. Additionally, students should thoroughly read their study contracts to understand payment terms, obligations, rights, and penalties, seeking clarification from university officials if needed. Providing updated contact information to the university inspector is also mandatory.
Health assessments are an essential part of student requirements, with annual medical examinations scheduled on designated days. Failure to complete these check-ups on time can lead to restrictions on receiving essential academic permits and certificates. Students must also familiarize themselves with their lecture and examination schedules, ensuring they attend assessments on time. Those in higher academic years (4th to 6th) must confirm the location of their clinical training in advance.
Punctuality is strictly enforced at Gomel State Medical University. Late arrivals result in mandatory extra classes (otrabotka), which require additional payments. At the beginning of each academic year, students must extend their student cards with the dean’s office signature and stamp. Group leaders also have responsibilities, including submitting record books before and after final exams.
During summer medical training, students in their 3rd, 4th, and 5th years must undergo clinical practice at designated healthcare institutions in Gomel. Under exceptional circumstances, they may request training at home by submitting a formal request three months before the semester ends, along with confirmation from the hospital where they intend to train.
Students should plan their travel home during summer and winter vacations strictly within scheduled timelines, booking tickets in advance and obtaining visa approval from the dean’s office. In cases of expulsion due to nonpayment, re-enrollment is only possible under a new contract. Attendance at meetings organized by the dean’s office is mandatory.
The university enforces strict behavioral policies to maintain a healthy academic environment. Consumption of alcohol, drugs, or psychotropic substances is prohibited, as is smoking within hostels and public spaces. Hostel residents must maintain cleanliness in their living spaces and follow duty rosters, disposing of waste properly. Fire safety regulations must be strictly observed.
Students must ensure timely payment for hostel accommodations and vacate their rooms within one month of expulsion, leaving their living spaces in good condition. If any property damage occurs, financial compensation must be made within seven days. Additionally, expelled students are required to leave Belarus within a month.
Failure to comply with these regulations can result in reprimands or expulsion from the university, with no option for re-admission. Violations of residency rules, such as delayed registration renewals, may result in fines starting at $50. Repeated violations—including traffic offenses, involvement in fights, or registration lapses—can lead to deportation from Belarus for a period ranging from one to five years. In cases of serious infractions, the university reserves the right to refuse the issuance of study invitations.
